On November 18th, 2009, North Shore Animal League America played a vital role in helping to rescue 150 dogs from two separate puppy mills in the Midwest. The fourth mill rescue this year, the Animal League knew exactly what to expect and started preparing weeks in advance to give the best possible care to these frightened dogs. The mill dogs consist of mostly adults of various breeds such as Pomeranians, Poodles, Beagles and Cocker Spaniels. These dogs were considered unsellable by the mills and would have been killed or sold at auction for as little as 25 cents apiece if it were not for the huge rescue effort. Confused, tired and scared, all the mill dogs are being medically and behaviorally evaluated, bathed, groomed and will be spayed or neutered in preparation for being placed for adoption in our shelter headquarters located in Port Washington, NY.
